Emotional Regulation

Occupational Therapy

Emotional regulation therapy focuses on helping individuals understand and manage their emotions in a healthy and adaptive way. The therapy begins with an assessment by an occupational therapist (OT) to identify specific emotional challenges and triggers. Based on this assessment, a personalized treatment plan is developed.

Therapy sessions incorporate a variety of techniques and activities designed to enhance self-awareness, emotional expression, and coping skills. These may include mindfulness practices, relaxation techniques, and cognitive-behavioral strategies to identify and reframe negative thought patterns. The OT may also use role-playing scenarios, social stories, and visual aids to help individuals practice and reinforce emotional regulation skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Additionally, the therapy might involve teaching problem-solving skills, promoting positive self-talk, and developing a toolbox of coping strategies that individuals can use in different situations. The OT works closely with the individual to ensure that the strategies are practical and can be integrated into their daily life.
