Educational Support & Developmental Skills

School preparedness therapy focuses on equipping children with the foundational skills necessary for a smooth transition into school life. The therapy begins with an assessment by an occupational therapist (OT) to identify areas of strength and areas needing improvement in relation to school readiness.

Therapy sessions include a range of activities designed to enhance cognitive, social, and motor skills. Cognitive activities may involve tasks that build attention, memory, and problem-solving abilities. These could include matching games, puzzles, and activities that promote early literacy and numeracy skills.

Social skills development is also a key component, with activities aimed at improving communication, cooperation, and the ability to follow instructions. The OT may use role-playing scenarios, group activities, and social stories to help children understand and practice appropriate social behaviors in a school setting.

Motor skills activities focus on both fine and gross motor development. Fine motor tasks might include practicing writing, cutting with scissors, and manipulating small objects, while gross motor activities could involve exercises that enhance balance, coordination, and physical endurance, such as hopping, jumping, and obstacle courses.

The therapy also emphasizes routines and organizational skills, helping children learn how to manage their time, follow a schedule, and organize their school materials. The OT provides a supportive and engaging environment where children can develop these skills through play-based and structured activities.
