Gross and fine motor skills therapy aims to enhance both large and small muscle movements, essential for a wide range of daily activities. Therapy begins with an assessment by an occupational therapist (OT) to identify specific motor skill deficits and areas requiring improvement.

Gross Motor Skills Therapy:
Gross motor skills therapy targets the development of large muscle groups used in activities such as sitting, standing, walking, and running. The therapy includes exercises and activities designed to improve strength, coordination, balance, and endurance. Techniques may involve obstacle courses, balance beams, jumping exercises, and games that encourage movement and coordination. The OT provides guidance on proper movement patterns and posture to ensure safe and effective exercise execution.

Fine Motor Skills Therapy:
Fine motor skills therapy focuses on the small muscle movements in the hands and fingers required for tasks such as writing, buttoning, and using utensils. The therapy involves activities that enhance hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and precision. Exercises may include manipulating small objects, practicing writing and drawing, cutting with scissors, and using playdough to strengthen hand muscles. The OT may also incorporate adaptive tools and techniques to facilitate skill development and make daily tasks easier.

Throughout the therapy process, the OT uses a variety of engaging and motivating activities tailored to the individual's needs and goals. Regular monitoring and adjustments to the therapy plan ensure continuous progress and alignment with the individual's evolving abilities.
